Salary-to-hourly formula
The useful question is not simply “What is my salary?” but “How much pay does this job produce for each hour of my time?” This calculator first converts your pay into a monthly equivalent, adds any regular monthly bonus you choose to include, and then divides by the monthly work hours you entered.
| Pay you enter | Monthly equivalent used | Then calculate |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly salary | Monthly pay | Monthly pay ÷ monthly work hours |
| Annual salary | Annual pay ÷ 12 | Monthly equivalent ÷ monthly work hours |
| Weekly pay | Weekly pay × 52 ÷ 12 | Monthly equivalent ÷ monthly work hours |
If you work a standard 40-hour week for 52 paid weeks, a common shortcut is annual salary ÷ 2,080 hours. The schedule-based calculator can be more useful when your actual workdays or daily hours differ from that assumption.
Examples
22 workdays × 8 hours = 176 hours per month. NT$45,000 ÷ 176 ≈ NT$255.68 per hour.
US$60,000 ÷ 12 = US$5,000 per month. At 22 days × 8 hours, the schedule-based hourly equivalent is about US$28.41.
US$1,200 × 52 ÷ 12 = US$5,200 per month. At 21.67 days × 8 hours, the hourly equivalent is about US$30.00.
These examples are arithmetic illustrations, not recommendations about what a “good” wage should be. The right comparison depends on location, taxes, benefits, working conditions, and what you value outside work.
Use hourly equivalents to compare job offers
Two offers can show the same monthly salary and still have very different time costs. Before choosing between jobs, compare more than the headline pay:
- Expected hours: regular hours, required overtime, pre-shift preparation, and unpaid waiting time.
- Commute: a longer commute reduces the amount of free time left after work.
- Bonuses and allowances: include them only if they are regular enough to matter in a realistic scenario.
- Paid leave and holidays: time off can materially change the value of otherwise similar compensation packages.
- Benefits: insurance, pension contributions, meal or transport support, and employer-paid training may add value that is not visible in hourly cash pay.
- Schedule quality: rotating shifts, weekends, nights, split shifts, or unpredictable overtime may matter even when the hourly equivalent is higher.

What this calculator does not include
The result is a gross arithmetic equivalent based on the numbers you enter. It does not automatically subtract income tax, social insurance, pension contributions, unpaid leave, commuting costs, or other deductions. If you enter net pay instead of gross pay, the result becomes a net-pay hourly equivalent instead.
It also does not determine minimum wage or overtime pay. Those are legal questions that depend on the jurisdiction and employment arrangement. Use the relevant government or labor authority for statutory rates and entitlements.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert a monthly salary to an hourly rate?
Divide monthly pay by your typical monthly work hours. With 22 workdays and 8 hours per day, monthly work hours are 176.
How do I convert an annual salary to an hourly rate?
One method is annual salary ÷ 12 ÷ monthly work hours. For a standard 40-hour week and 52 paid weeks, annual salary ÷ 2,080 is a common shortcut.
How do I convert weekly pay to hourly pay?
This calculator converts weekly pay to a monthly equivalent using 52 ÷ 12, then divides by the monthly work hours you enter.
Why is my answer different from another calculator?
Assumptions differ. Some tools use 2,080 hours per year, some use 4.33 weeks per month, and others use a fixed number of workdays. Enter your actual schedule for the comparison you care about.
Should I add bonuses?
If a bonus is regular and you want it included in the comparison, enter a monthly equivalent. If it is uncertain or one-off, leave it out and run a separate scenario.
Is the result before or after tax?
It reflects whatever pay amount you enter. Enter gross pay for a gross hourly equivalent, or net pay for a net hourly equivalent.
